1988-2004: Early life and beginnings
Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty as February 20, 1988 in Saint Michael, Barbados, as the daughter of Monica Braithwaite, a retired accountant and Ronald Fenty, the warehouse manager in a garment factory. Her mother is a native of Gujana and her father has Irish and Barbados roots. Monica and Ronald Fenty together have three children: the oldest and Robyn Rihanna Fenty named Rorrey and Rajada. Rihanna also has two half-sisters and a brother from his father’s side, all born by different mothers before marrying Rihanna’s mother.
She grew up listening to reggae music, and began singing at the age of about seven years. Her childhood was marked by her father’s addiction to cocaine, alcohol and marijuana. Fenty’s marriage ended when Rihanna was 14 years old. Her father still remained a part of her life. The child suffered from severe headaches, which doctors suspected a brain tumor. The singer had a few tomography in age from 8 to 14 years of age. She grew up in a modest three-bungalow in Bridgetown, where his father sold clothes at a street stall. In December 2003, Rihanna met through mutual friend of the American music producer Evan Rogers. The singer and two members of the team took part in a hearing organized by Rogers in his hotel room. The manufacturer said that “when Rihanna walked into the room, the two previous girls ceased to exist.” During the audition Rogers sang a cover of “Emotion” Destiny’s Child . Rihanna made an impression on producer and invited her to a second meeting with her mother, during which offered her a record with Carl Sturken at their studio in New York City. At age 16, she was miss school and won a school talent show with a song by Mariah Carey “Hero” . Over the next year Rihanna often traveled to Rogers’ home in Stamford, Connecticut. With the help of Sturken recorded four songs demo , including Whitney Houston’s cover of “Last Time” and her first hit, “Pon De Replay”. Then Rihanna went back to school and recording songs dealt only during holidays and at Christmas.
In January 2005, Rogers began sending pre-recorded demo Rihanna to record labels. A copy of the demo went into the studio Def Jam, where Jay Brown, one of the staff of A & R, he heard it and presented the President of the label, Jay-Z . When Jay-Z heard “Pon de Replay”, was initially skeptical.
